Delve Deeper Recording Is Finished

Well, "Delve Deeper" has officially been completely recorded.  My new album has 33 songs on it, and is about two hours long on a double CD.  I wrote, recorded, and produced everything on my own, so it sounds exactly the way I want it to.  You can pre-order it now for $15 (including shipping and handling).  The artwork still has to be finished, but when it is, the album will be ready for sale.  You can buy it from Underground Music Monthly before anyone else will be able to get it to you.

Unfortunately, none of you emailed me to participate in the "There Was A Man" contest, so nobody won.  I'm going to extend the contest another month.  The first 15 people who enter will get a free copy of "Intro To My Mind" just for trying.  Read the "There Was A Man" contest article from last month in order to participate.  Be sure to include your mailing address for the free copy of "Intro To My Mind."

If you want to know more about the new album, you can check out www.wakefirerecords.com.   It will be a couple of weeks before I get everything up there, but in the mean time, take a free listen in RealAudio format to "True Hip-Hop," "No Limits," and "Friends."

Picasso Jones Can Go Somewhere

by Carrie Wagner

The sweet sounds of Picasso Jones floats through the air like a dance between two lovers. "Atlanta" their first track is like a country drive through the sunset. Picasso Jones lyrics are loud and clear and harmonize well with their guitar licks and drum beats. Their sound continues with "sorry it had to be you" which reminds me of melon colic love ballad played inside a "chick flick."

"Bleed Me" (the third track on the CD) is more of a torn up paper bag effect of sound with It’s has emotional anger. The sound of "Bleed me" has a different tune but it still does not differ from the first two tracks sound. The guitar still has that drifting through sadness tune to it.

The last song on this short disk is like the same as the first, (which by the time I was done listening wasn’t much of a surprise to me.) Picasso Jones can go somewhere, they have the talent and clear voice behind ballad lyrics and I would recommend their CD. With every review there is always a flaw with the band; it’s that after awhile their songs tend to sound the same. I would recommend picking one of the songs and keeping it on the CD, and well add just a touch of new sound with the others and you got a sure fire hit.

Skeptictank

by Carrie Wagner

A mixture of punk, with that ska flavor is what drips down this band. Their first song entitled: "#1 HIT SINGLE" speaks of the "PoP" culture that Skeptictank does not blend into. Their music drifts to the next song, "manifest density," which is a satire upon suburban culture.

The album then explodes into fast paced lyrics that are about as understandable as the words in between R.E.M’s song "It’s the End of the world... and I feel fine." If you do catch a word, then you pick upon their satiric flavor that the band uses in every song. By this time you look for something new from the next track. This doesn’t happen until the 12th track "Revisionist," This song has more instrumental creativity mixed with the band's ska flavor. This song is my personal favorite on the CD. Then the band picks up with the original sound for the last tracks on their CD, which isn’t bad but I can’t really say it's good either

I believe that this "CD" would be a perfect soundtrack for a night of destruction upon a city. Then you can continue the night with an ending of exciting porno movie. Which some of "Skeptictank’s" beat can be transfused into.

I am not giving the band a bad rap. I believe that they have something to say to the world. Just tonight I don’t believe that I am in the mood for the music. But hey it’s not going to kill you if you check it out, (at least I don’t think it will). If you do check the CD out, please listen to track 12 and track 17 "Grunties."

For your personal enjoyment here’s all the info of the band. Their web-site is at Http://www.skeptictank.com or you can email them at Skeptictank@yahoo.com and or Profanetank@yahoo.com

Thanks for taking the time to read this month's issue of Underground Music Monthly.  Next month will be the one year anniversary of the rerelease of Underground Music Monthly here at UMMusic.com.  Look for the year in review article, a guest distribution article by a former distributor, an Update on UMMusic.com (which should include the record store section being finished), and of course reviews of some of the greatest independent musicians in the world today.
