Underground Music Monthly
Welcome to Underground Music Monthly. When I first launched the site, back
in 1998, it was at UMMusic.com, and for a while I kept it at
http://www.missionman.net/UndergroundMusicMonthly/ because I knew I wanted
to come back to it sometime. Now, I've relaunched it using asp for better
organization, and less broken links. I launched it because I felt like the
internet had a real chance to change the fundamentals of how we were exposed to
music, and that independent musicians had the potential to have a chance to
compete with major labels. I think we've seen that now, as the MP3 came in,
technology has continued to evolve, and social networking has allowed us to make
a more personal connection with our fans and friends. With all of the changes,
I wanted to create a site dedicated to keeping musicians informed about
important new sites for independent musicians, in addition to giving them all of
the traditional resources, such as music venue listings, college radio stations
and newspapers, places to sell your music, and other ways to promote your music.
With the reorganization of the site, I feel like I have a great chance to help a
ton of musicians find information quickly and easily, so you can spend more time
doing what really matters to you as a musician, which is making music.
Some things I want to do require learning some web technologies, but I'd like to
improve the ability for this site to take your input. My goal is to allow
you to login using your Facebook account and comment on each page, and suggest
specific resources, share stories about venues and what promotion has worked for
you and what hasn't. I'd also really like to start a gigswapping page
here.
Just a little about me. My name is Gary Milholland. My stage name is
Mission Man, and I've been rapping since 1992. I love making music, and
this site is designed for others who love music as much as I do. Thank you
for stopping by, and I wish you great luck in accomplishing your dreams, and
more importantly, I hope this site gives you more time to concentrate on making
music, learning from that music, and loving every moment along the way.
